By Vicki Nelson – The computer age has been of great benefit to Seniors across the valley. 8 Senior Centers have formed Wii bowling leagues, which is much easier on old joints. On April 12, 2012, seniors from the Kearns Senior Center met at the Taylorsville Senior Center for a fun, exciting game. Taylorsville won the first match, and Kearns won the second. Kearns has 2 teams, the “little Rascals” and the “Baby Boomers”. These games will continue every two weeks at various Senior Centers. The finalists will compete at the Senior Expo on October 4th and 5th. We hope many people will be cheering for their local Senior Center.
Painting
On May 7th at 11:15, Karen Mayne will present a new picture of Eddie Mayne and remind the group of why the Kearns Senior Center was given his name. If don’t know if you would be able to cover this story or not, but thought I’d advise you of this upcoming event.
American Legion
On April 17, 2012, during the “nite time” party at the Kearns Senior Center, a new American Flag was raised during a ceremony. The flag was donated by Rex Bass and others from Post 132 of the Kearns American Legion. The old flag had become quite worn, and the new flag will be honored and appreciated by all the seniors in the area. Thank you very much, American Legion, for the flag and all the fine work you do on behalf of your community.
Boy Scouts
On April 14, 2012, 8 boys and their leader from Troop 2441 of the Boy Scouts of America, donated 24 hours of sweat and muscle to dig and rebuild 2 horse shoe pits for the use of the Seniors at the Kearns Senior Center. Their labors on behalf of the seniors is very much appreciated and it also helped with their badges toward their Eagles. (We hope all the boys involved attain their Eagles, it is a great achievement) The Advisory Council President from the Center was there to accept this gift of their time and labor.
