“Why I Love Magna”

By Sylvia Sutton Sharp – I am renaming my article for this week “Off the Wall, With Syl!”. I kind of like that, it means I can write anything I want. This is an editorial, you know. So anything goes. Now that’s a scary thought aye.

I actually gave a talk in church last week and it was all about the ONE.  Don’t stop reading, it will be okay. I am changing it to fit the occasion. I began by saying how important  it is to me to show others that I care about them regardless of their life style, and choices they have made. It is called unconditional love.
Why is that something that I feel strongly about? I think mostly because that is the way my parents raised me. I knew they loved me unconditionally it was natural for me to feel the same toward others. Could I say care about others and taking it a step further/  Find the ONE that may need your help right now. Challenge; do extra special things for them, give of your time and let them know that they are someONE special to you The word ONE can mean so many things. I want to share some ways ONE can make a difference in your life.  ”ONE day at a time,” some of you will recognize this as a quote from the A.A. 12 step program. It is very good advice to anyone who is going through difficult times.
ONE picture is worth a thousand words. You only have ONE life to live,
so live it the best you can. ONE kind sincere act, can change a life. “ONE good apple a day can keep the Dr. away,” “Sometimes we can get a ONCE in a lifetime opportunity,” “ONE soul is great in the eyes of God”. What happens in ONE day can change the whole course of our lives. “ONE bad apple can spoil the whole bushel.” “ONE kind act will not go unnoticed.” Well I am starting to make these up so I will now move on with another “crazy” thought or two.
Yesterday, April 22, there were two obituaries in the Salt Lake Tribune that caught my eye. The first one was Edward John Cannon, 1955-2012. Although I did not know Edward I want to share some thoughts that were in his obituary. “Eddie enjoyed growing up in the close knit town of Magna and always enjoyed dragging Magna main in his silver Trans AM.”
The second one was very short, Victor “Chip” Gray Jr. 1961-2012 The
last thing listed said “A celebration of his life will be held at the Copper King in Magna.”
Yes, it is true Magna is a very diversified place that welcomes all who
will take the time to know the folks and the friendships we have to offer here. ONE great spot on earth!
